By Any Other Name

SLICK FILMS PRESENTS “BY ANY OTHER NAME” (B.A.O.N): A RIVETING SHORT FILM SHINING A LIGHT ON THE DARK WORLD OF SEX TRAFFICKING.

Slick Films are set to captivate audiences with their latest short film, “By Any Other Name” (B.A.O.N). The unique partnership between Daniel Deville (Director) and Camilla Arnold (Producer) has produced a compelling film that delves into the harrowing world of sex trafficking while exploring themes of sisterhood, resilience, and the power of maternal love.

“By Any Other Name” (B.A.O.N) follows the intertwined stories of two sisters caught in a devastating predicament. On one side, we witness the plight of a vulnerable young girl ensnared within the dark clutches of sex trafficking. On the other, we meet a determined working-class Northern Mother, defying all odds as she embarks on a courageous journey to rescue her sister from the depths of despair.

“By Any Other Name” features a talented ensemble cast including Jade Anouka (‘His Dark Materials’, ‘Cleaning Up’, HBO’s ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’), Duncan Pow (‘Star Wars: Andor’, ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’, ‘The Salisbury Poisonings’, ‘Halo’), and Avita Jay (‘Silent Witness’, ‘The Rezort’). The cast’s performances breathe life into the characters and bring depth to the narrative.

Director Daniel Deville’s meticulous attention to detail and sensitive approach to storytelling, coupled with Camilla Arnold’s expertise as the film’s producer, has created a thought-provoking cinematic experience that seeks to raise awareness and ignite meaningful conversations. The powerful partnership between Daniel (who is hearing) and Camilla (who is deaf) is a force to be reckoned with and a first of its kind for a film. As a result, “By Any Other Name” is a blend of poignant storytelling and striking visuals that unflinchingly exposes the harsh realities faced by victims of sex trafficking, while also highlighting the unwavering strength of familial bonds and the lengths one can go to protect their loved ones. It promises to leave audiences deeply moved and inspired.

What truly distinguishes this project is its commitment to social enterprise. To ensure authenticity and representation, an incredible team of deaf professionals were assembled to work alongside their hearing counterparts, fostering a 50:50 collaboration. This inclusive partnership not only created a positive, inclusive working environment but also provided an opportunity for the deaf crew to showcase their remarkable talents. Inspired by this experience, numerous hearing crew members have committed to learning sign language and expressed their intent to recommend the deaf crew for future projects.

Commenting on the film, Director Daniel Deville stated, “By Any Other Name is an urgent exploration of the horrors of sex trafficking, but at its core, it is a testament to the enduring power of love and determination. We hope this film not only entertains but also serves as a catalyst for change and empathy.”

Producer Camilla Arnold added, “I decided to take on By Any Other Name as I really believed in Daniel, in his vision but also the important two fold message of the film. When I first read the script, I got goosebumps and that was when I knew I had to be part of the beautiful production. I also saw this as a great opportunity to bridge the gap between deaf and hearing media professionals”.

Slick Films invites audiences to join them on this profound cinematic journey when “By Any Other Name” premieres at various film festivals and platforms in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates on release dates and screening information.
