THE STORY
Outstanding Screenplays’ award winning script ‘Egg Timer’ has now been brought to screen by Academy Award Winning Slick Films and Biscuit Filmworks and tells the story of Megan (Ella Bruccoleri) as she comes face to face with her 30th birthday and the accompanying pressure that comes with that milestone. That pressure is only further compounded when her opinionated ovarian eggs (Kerry Godliman, Polly Kemp, Lauren O’Rourke, Kate Robbins, and Alison Spittle) start chiming in on her every move.
Throughout the film, Megan finds herself navigating not just the expectations of family and friends, but also the brutally honest commentary from within. In a comedic clash between reality and her ovaries, Megan must decide whose voice to listen to.
Rosie May Bird Smith (Writer & Director)
‘What better way to comment on the pressure women feel to conform to societal standards than through overbearing ovarian eggs…? If it’s not the sudden onset of everyone around you starting to have kids (and really wanting that as a next step), it’s your own body chiming in on the conversation by counting you down with a monthly nudge. I hope that this story serves as a reminder that in the face of all this, it’s more than ok to trust your instinct and stick to your own time frame.’
Hattie Jackson (Producer)
‘It was important to us to have a 50/50 gender split amongst crew off screen, to reflect the female centric story that was unfolding on screen. Everyone involved in the film connected with Megan’s character one way or another, there were a lot of conversations after the cameras stopped rolling about children, women’s health and societal pressures… I remember thinking, Wow, this film is opening up conversations about difficult topics between men/women, older generations, different backgrounds etc… I can’t wait to see how these discussions evolve and continue throughout the film festival run.’
Ella Bruccoleri (Megan)
‘It’s unusual to read a script about someone who isn’t sure about having children and that coming across in an accessible and funny way. I got it through when I was going through a period of upheaval in my own life. It couldn’t have been more well-timed that I got to work with this fantastic female team on a piece that encourages women to not feel they have to bow to pressure to follow the same trajectory as everyone else.‘
Chris Overton (Slick Films)
‘We’re so proud of Egg Timer. It will be the perfect light relief on the festival circuit in 2025. It’s beautifully crafted and acted and is laugh out loud funny, whilst delivering a really strong message with a lot of surprises. We’re really confident Egg Timer will have amazing success and we can’t wait to see it unfold.’

Egg Timer had its world premiere at the 43rd edition of the BAFTA-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival.
