A darkly comic short film exploring grief, toxic masculinity and the dangers of performative suffering.
After losing his wife in a tragic fire, secondary school teacher Max (Hugh Skinner – Fleabag, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia) writes a play about his life for his students to perform. As the lines between art and reality blur, Max spirals out of control in a twisted cry for help.
Premiering at the BAFTA & BIFA qualifying Norwich Film Festival, PLEASE CARE! went on to win Best British Director at the British Short Film Awards.
Written and directed by Bertie Gilbert (named one of Dazed’s “Five New Wes Andersons”), the film draws on his own experiences of vulnerability and performative suffering.
Produced by Ash Horne, with production design from BIFA-nominated Aimee Meek (Boiling Point), and cinematography by Ciaran O’Brien.
