Happy Maki
At Slick Films we are always looking to collaborate on projects which stand for positive change within our communities… and our friends at Happy Maki are doing just that.
Happy Maki is a not for profit vegan sushi company looking to change the way we as a society do business.
“Not only is our current shop powered by green energy, our packaging is compostable too. Our waste is zero to landfill and we are a living wage employer. For each vegan sushi burrito we sell we plant a tree and feed a child”. – Anna (Owner of Happy Maki)
The goal is to raise 80K in order to open up a new restaurant space in the heart of Brighton which operates off gift economy, also known as ‘pay as you feel’ or by donation.
Essentially, this means they will be providing food as a gift and the customer chooses how much they would like to gift back… if anything at all. This removes the demand on the customer and makes healthy vegan food affordable for everyone. They are also currently developing a new web application to create an efficient, anonymous, contactless donation system.

Furthermore, Happy Maki will be publishing all of their findings from the pay as you feel experiment online, alongside their financial reports, in hope this inspires others to follow the same business model.

To date Happy Maki has planted 226,405 trees and has provided 306,301 meals through their charity partners Eden Reforestation Projects and Marys Meals.
