Top 5 Self-Isolating Films
Whilst we’re all participating in self isolation and social distance, why not have a little tongue-in-cheek look at our top 5 self-isolating films.
1. Moon
Duncan Jones’ directorial debut and still his best film. With plenty of twists and turns watching this mystery unravel as Sam Rockwell waits out his last few weeks before going home, is one that gets better every time. Sam Rockwell working on the moon on his own for 90 minutes what more could you want?
2. Cast Away
We obviously couldn’t complete a list like this without a mention of the Tom Hanks vehicle that is Cast Away. A timeless performance by him and his co-star Wilson. Only Tom Hanks could make us feel something for a volleyball. A lot has been written on this film over the years, just watch it.
3. Gravity
What’s more isolating that being stuck in a space suit floating around on your own? A truly beautiful yet slightly nauseating film. Multiple Oscar wins, best seen on the big screen, but if an iPad on your lap is the best you get at the moment, then what are you waiting for?
4. The Martian
A lot of money and lives have been spent trying to get Matt Damon home safe, from Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar and of course The Martian. Watching Damon’s Mark Watney ‘science the shit’ out of his situation with a great sense of humour and more enthusiasm than I’d have, is a great way to spend a newly quiet afternoon.
5. I am Legend
I’m definitely on about only half of this film, you know, the good half. Just a man and his dog surviving the apocalypse. I can speak for almost everyone when I say that a film of Will Smith milling around an abandoned New York City is all we really wanted from the film. But if you can forgive the awful altered ending then, it’s a really easy film to like. Just don’t get too attached to Sam…
